Celebrating life

Ever given a thought to the ultimate purpose of life? You need not be a spiritually inclined person to delve deep for an answer. The job you take up, the passion you pursue, the wealth you accumulate, in fact, everything you do consciously or unconsciously is always in an attempt to be happy. Yes, we are all in a constant pursuit of happiness.

The basic premise here is that happiness and celebration are directly proportional. The more happy you are, the more celebratory life becomes.

To some, happiness is material possessions, luxury and comforts. To some, happiness is simplicity and well being. To some others, happiness is travel. To me, happiness is people.

To me, happiness is being around the people I love and those who love me back. We gallop on in a quest to assimilate wealth, gain power and position, earn respect, and reach the top of the world. But it’s usually too late by the time we realize that when we are at the top of the world, we are typically all by ourselves. We give up health, time, and relationships to achieve our goals forgetting that these are the very things we need to celebrate life.

Many times we see children on the streets jumping, splashing muck and laughing with all their heart on a rainy day. And then there are people living in bungalows depressed looking at the same rains because they do not know what to do about it, for they do not have anyone to enjoy it with.

Happiness and celebrations come along when we meet different people, spread love and joy, accept them with all our warmth and get loved in return. This way, we always have people who celebrate life with us.

The overarching idea is to always have people around you who can cheer you up when you are sad, make you forget all your worries with just a warm hug, who would celebrate even your smallest victory, make you feel on top of the world, motivate you when you think you’ve hit rock bottom, miss your presence when you part, hate your absence when you are not around, remember you when someone talks about you, smile thinking of you and feel happy to have come across you.

It’s then that you do not need a huge house or a swanky car or a feat to accomplish or a reputation to build in order to celebrate. Life then becomes a celebration.
